"Wrestling, A Family Tradition"
by Matt Opheim
Is it so unusual that brothers wrestle?  It's not to say that this is such an unusual occurence, as brothers play baseball, football and basketball.  What's different about wrestling?  No matter the age, or the size of the brothers, they do it together.  The 2nd grader practices with his 8th grade brother.  They compete together, they win together, they lose together, they learn together.  What other sport allows this?  Wrestling is so personal, so intense, yet shared by so many brothers.  Brothers that wrestle is an amazing tradition that continues to grow, continues to teach, continues to provide brothers with a common bond that only brothers that wrestle can understand.  Watching your brother play baseball or football is fun, but watching him wrestle a match is an unbelievable experience, one that can't compare to anything else.  Being a wrestler demands confidence, respect and it bonds brothers beyond blood.  No excuses, no could have, should have or would have exists.  No time to make up for a dropped pass, no time outs, no halftime.  A simple pat on the back is all that it takes.  Brothers understand, they know why.
The Mountain Vista Golden Eagle Wrestling Club is very proud to present "Brothers that Wrestle."

Estes Park, Colorado - Maul, Huber, Colebank and Opheim attend The Brands Brothers Intensive Iowa Wrestling Camp.  For the first time in 15 years, the tradition of Iowa wrestling is back in the Rockies.  Wrestlers from Colorado, Kansas, Wyoming and Nebraska attended camp for a week at the YMCA facilities in Estes Park.  These dedicated wrestlers learned from the defending NCAA champion Iowa Hawkeyes.  This camp proved to be an incredible experience for these 4 Golden Eagle wrestlers and provided each of them a great deal of technique, work ethic and inspiration to complete a priceless experience.

"David Opheim represents Colorado at the USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals in Cedar Falls Iowa at the UNI-Dome"
On April 3rd, David and his dad took off for a 1000 mile road trip across Nebraska and halfway across Iowa to the campus of the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls to compete in the USA Wrestling Folkstyle National Championships.  David wrestled in the 65 lb. weight class.  Wrestlers from Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Florida, New York, Oregon, California, Missouri, Minnesota, Michigan and one of our own representing Colorado competed for a national championship in the 65 lb. weight class.  Chad Red of Indianapolis, Indiana was crowned the 65 lb. 2009 USA Wrestling National Champion.  There were over 3,200 wrestlers in attendance across all age groups and weight classes.  David's grandparents, Don and Mary made the trip from Fort Dodge, Iowa to watch him compete as well as his Aunt Kristen and Uncle Todd from Minneapolis Minnesota. It was a real treat for them to watch their grandson/nephew compete in this very prestigous tournament.  David was excited that his family was there to watch him compete, and of course there was no added pressure due to their presence, yeah right.  Congratulations David, your wrestling family and immediate family are very proud of you!!

"Bradley Colebank attends Chertow Camp in Pennsylvania"
On February 7th & 8th, Bradley's mom and dad took him to Pennsylvania where he participated in a Ken Chertow Gold Medal Camp.  Bradley is one of the top wrestlers in the club and it is because of his dedication to the sport.  Brad and his family were able to see Penn State take on The University of Iowa and Ohio State University in dual action while they were in PA.  Brad's dedication to the sport of wrestling is evident on the mat.  He is in 7th grade and undefeated this year, wrestling for Mountain Ridge Middle School.  Brad has a bright future and will undoubtedly be the 103 pounder to beat in a few short years as he approaches his high school career with Mountain Vista High School.
